Introduction

This project is designed to give volunteers the opportunity to help out directly in a community. This two week to three month long program will allow the volunteer to teach English in a small primary school, as well as work on a variety of different development or building projects. You will have an opportunity to experience and learn about thai cooking and to work on a development building Activities.

The children need help finding fluent English speakers so that they may have the opportunity to learn in the best way possible. The curriculum is very open ended and as it does not require certification, the volunteer has a great deal of flexibility in devising lesson plans. The children’s education, particularly in English, will give them a great deal more opportunities in the future to better their circumstances, and they are always excited to have new foreign teachers, which gives them good opportunities for future jobs.
Sri Racha is located about 1.5 hours East of Bangkok, off of the Gulf of Thailand. The village, although still technically in Sri Racha is about 30 minutes from the downtown area.
The objects for this project :
-
To learn about a community by living and working within it
-
For the volunteer to have a real impact toward bettering the community
-
Give volunteers the opportunity to teach English without prior certification
-
Teach the volunteer about village life in Thailand
-
This project can support the education of children in the remote area.
The result :

-
The volunteers will gain knowledge about the ecology system between humans and nature.
-
The volunteers will become a special teacher for children and can exchange culture and traditions between local teachers and the volunteers .
-
To help people in the village with income from eco-tourism.

This program is long term. You will have either a home stay within the village, or stay at the volunteer house, and every weekday will be given the opportunity to teach at small primary school in local village

Besides the two hours or so of teaching every weekday, you will also be expected to help in one of several community development projects that are going on. Currently, the elephant camp needs a great deal of help getting started, and the community often joins in to assist in the traditional style of building that will be taking place. It will give you the opportunity to learn about traditional development and a chance to work directly with the community, making it a better place.

In addition to these weekly activities, there will be a great deal of opportunities for you to travel around Thailand while having Sri Racha as a “home base”. Most of the programs that we offer will be available to the volunteers of this program, including: weekend trips to Koh Si-chang island or Pattaya, Bangkok, Ayuthya, and many more . You can spend all of your weekends doing these trips, travel on your own, or relax in Sri Racha.
The Program
On a day-to-day basis, you are expected to teach the local children English and to help out with farming and centre activities. As most children do not speak any English yet, you have to be a little creative with teaching methods (or you must already speak the Thai language!). Evening time and weekends can be spent freely. You can stay at the village, visit the city Sriracha or explore the beautiful area around the district of Sriracha. Some of the highlights here are , gorgeous temples and the beautiful koh si-chang island. We can arrange local guides to join you on these nature trips.
You will generally participate from Monday to Friday. On Saturday and Sunday you can relax and spend time for yourself.
Accommodation:

Accommodation is very comfortable. You will stay at Parichard Place, a fully furnished resort near Robinsons (a huge mall). Your room has air-conditioning, a bathroom, a mini fridge, a wardrobe and a TV. You may have to share the room with another volunteer. The place is only 1.5km. away from the office.
Food:

For food, a meal is provided for you 2 times a day. The breakfast consists of fruits, jam, bread, pudding or cheese, fried egg, which you can cook yourself. Lunch can either be eaten at the centre or in local restaurants in the village. As for dinner, you will join the Thai staff for a trip to the local maket to buy food and various ingredients.
